Potter Post

Ciara Jayne Linteau

Ciara has been working with ceramics for over 20 years. She was born in Calgary, Alberta and then moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta where she taught ceramic classes and completed a diploma in Business Administration from Keyano College. She then graduated with a bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta college of Art and Design. She now resides in Banff, Alberta which is a large inspiration for her work. The landscape of Banff influences the aspects of spirituality and nature in her ceramic work. She likes to depict the deep marks of mountains and water into her work. Ciara uses a potters lathe to create her work as well as white clay so she can paint her intricate designs on top.

I have great interest in the artist and her work firstly because she is from my hometown and now resides in one of my favourite places, Banff, Alberta. That aspect is what initially drew me to her. Furthermore, I love her work. The aspects of texture to depict the vast mountain range in banff are one of my favourite things about her work. In the first image above I love her use of light color and repetitive texture pattern around the rim of the plate. In the third image, I love the dullness of the cup, it has a matte texture with slight bumps to really showcase the texture of the mountain. I also enjoy the asymmetry in design. There are multiple mountains located on the cup but each look different.

All of her work is available on her website: https://www.ciarajayne.com/about.
